Unlike many Tramp Art boxes made from cigar box wood, this example is crafted in oak, giving it a sturdier construction and more substantial feel. The exterior is decorated with four-layer rectangular pyramids along the front, back, and sides, while the top features trapezoidal carved forms arranged around a black velvet center.
Tramp Art is a highly collected form of American folk art, admired for its chip-carved geometry, layered construction, and transformation of simple materials into objects of striking pattern and dimension.
